Research is making progress in the fields of surgical glue, with the introduction of a new biocompatible adhesive that is activated by a laser. Adhesives offer several theoretical advantages over traditional suture thread, including: ease of application, elimination of the "signs" left by the suture, the immediate wound closure reducing the risk of infection. A group of dermatologists of the Harvard University, directed by Robert Redmond, used for the construction of the new glue, a dye usually used in ophthalmology, the Rose Bengal.
