Retin A

Tretinoin or Retin A is the acid form of vitamin A and so also known as all-trans retinoic acid. It is a drug commonly used to treat acne vulgaris.

Retin A is available as a cream or gel (brand name Retin-A). It is very effective for acne, but it may take 6-9 weeks to see a noticeable difference.
The best benefit is seen if Retin-A is used for at least a year. It helps the skin to renew itself more quickly and may improve the appearance and texture of skin.

I recommend you: do not use Retin-A on skin that is sunburned, windburned, dry or irritated.

Common treatment of atrophic acne scars consists of invasive methods such as Dermabrasion or implantation of bovine collagen.

A new non invasive treatment method consist of local iontophoresis performed with tretinoin. Eighteen women were treated with estriol iontophoresis twice weekly for a period of 3 months. The treatment was performed in 28 patients (19 women and 9 men) with atrophic acne scars. RESULTS. Improvement of acne scars was observed in 93% of patients treated with tretinoin. In conclusion this treatment were shown to be clinically effective in decreasing acne scars and persistence of effects.
This promising new therapeutic approach may thus replace invasive treatment methods in many patients.
