Milk and Acne:there is any link between milk consumption and acne?Milk and Acne? It is thought that hormones that occur naturally in milk and other dairy products nourish spots by making skin greasy and blocking pores. Skim milk had a higher association with acne than whole milk, suggesting that the fat content of milk was not the contributing factor. Whole milk contains more estrogen, and estrogens tend to reduce acne. A recent study did find a positive association between intake of skim milk and acne. This finding suggests that skim milk contains hormonal constituents, or factors that influence endogenous hormones, in sufficient quantities to have biological effects in consumers. PMID: 18194824 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] Another study, reported in the the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology said that Women who drink two or more servings of skimmed milk every day are 44 per cent more likely to have developed severe acne. The study was based on responses to a survey from 47,335 women involved in an ongoing health study. Drinking organic milk is not a solution because the cows are still pregnant while lactating, so they have the same hormones in their milk as non-organic cows. Goat milk and goat cheese are possible alternatives, but also are not hormone-free and should probably be avoided until we know for sure what hormones they contain. Click Here to read about Acne Diet
