Licorice Root Extract for Acne Hyperpigmentation

Licorice Root extract is considered one of the many natural compounds that act as a skin brightener when applied topically; it an be very useful to reduce post inflammatory Hyperpigmentation

Licorice is grown mainly in southern Europe and China.

The licorice plant, whose name means "sweet root", is a perennial plant high as five feet and is characterized by a vertical root. Although the plant is easy to grow, you must wait 3 or 4 years before you can collect the roots. The main ingredient in Licorice is glycyrrhizin which is a sweetener more than 50 times as sweet as sugar.

In traditional Chinese medicine, Licorice is used in herbal formulas to "harmonize" other ingredients.

Glabridin is the main active ingredient found in licorice extract for skin bleaching. Glabridin inhibits pigmentation by preventing tyrosinase activation. Studies made in vitro demonstrate Glabridine has the capacity to inhibit 50% of the activity of the Tyrosinase enzyme without damaging cells.

It has anti-inflammatory properties and helps prevent sensitivity. Due to its anti-oxidant properties helps avoid pigmentation caused by UV radiation.

I suggest you Oregon's Wild Harvest Licorice Extract

Instructions: Dilute the licorice extract with distilled water. Apply on the skin for 15 minutes twice per day. Start with a solution that is 10 parts water to one part licorice extract to determine whether there are any side effects or skin irritations, and increase the concentration until you start to notice a lightening of the affected pigmentation.

To accellerate the process I also suggest a skin lightening soap such as skin lightening soap

This soap is made with bearberry and licorice; it is gentle to the skin and it helps lighten brown and red spots.
