Kojic Acid ProductsKojic Acid Products can be useful to reduce post inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
This acid is a by-product of the fermentation process of malting rice for use in the manufacture of sake, Japanese rice wine. It is a hydrophilic fungal derivative obtained from Aspergillus and Penicillium species. It is increasingly being used as a skin-lightening agent in skincare products marketed in Japan since 1988. Melanocytes treated with K. acid become nondendritic with a decreased melanin content. Additionally, it scavenges reactive oxygen species that are excessively released from cells or generated in tissue or blood. Although effective as a skin-lightening agent, it causes higher incidence of irritant contact. For this reason, it is commonly found in concentrations of 1%. Products that contain this acid are usually used twice daily for 1 to 2 months or until the patient achieves the desired effect. A recent study found that K. acid and glycolic acid in combination was reported to have the same efficacy in treating hyperpigmentation and melasma as hydroquinone and glycolic acid in combination. The most common formulations for home use are creams and soaps. The easiest place to find K. products is in the skin-care section of a department store. To reduce hyperpigmentation from acne I suggest you Pro Strength Skin Lightening Serum Vitamin C ![]() This is a non-irritating skin lightening lotion that will correct uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, and dark spots. It is a natural alternative to Hydroquinone skin bleaching containing high concentrations of k. acid and Alph-Arbutin. I love thisproduct because I notoriously have dark and red spot from acne. The major reason I like this is it works relatively quickly and it is hydroquinine free. I also like it contains natural ingredients and few ingredients.
