Isolagen for Acne Scars?
Manufactured
by Isolagen Technologies Corporation, Isolagen is an autologous
technology; meaning, the cells used in the process come from the
patient's own body. Using this treatment
for acne scars has a high effectivity rate because it is all natural.
No
synthetic or foreign substances are used; the body's own skin cells are
used to jump-start the healing process. It was initially developed to
remove facial wrinkles and to make the skin smooth, but using it for
acne scars has also proven to be very effective.
Fibroblasts
are little cells that control levels of the proteins
collagen and elastin, which are found in skin, bones and other tissue.
To treat burns, the scientists take cells from an intact area, extract
the fibroblasts and reproduce them in the laboratory before injecting
them back into the patient.
Fibroblasts have been used for several years to
rejuvenate faces and injecting them into areas affected by stretch
marks has, in some cases, made them go away completely.
By reproducing a patient’s own
collagen-producing cells or fibroblasts
into tens of millions of new cells, a individualised treatment is
created which is then returned to the patient’s
skin.
This treatment is designed to
improve skin damage caused by the normal consequences of aging, sun
damage, acne and burns.
Isolagen
process works like this:, a sample patch of skin is
removed from behind
one's ear, and then sent to the laboratory in London. There, scientists
will harvest the collagen-promoting cells called fibroblasts from the
skin sample.
The fibroblasts are then isolated into small
vials, then cultured and frozen in storage for a short time. After
approximately eight weeks, sufficiency cells have been originated to
begin treatment. These cells are then injected directly into or very
near the patient's acne scars to encourage healing.
Clinical trials about
Isolagen for Acne Scars, also testify that compared with other
acne scar-removal modalities, Isolagen for acne Scars has no
side-effects
aside from very slight and temporary skin redness. In fact, patients
who have used it for acne scars have stated that they felt very
satisfied with the results.
Occasionally, the doctor
could recommend follow-up with microdermabrasion
or some supplementary
procedures to fully encourage healing. There is no require for
continual injections after the first two or three sessions.
The healing process
has been seen to continue in a lot of people up to seven years after
treatment.
Healing
takes place when new fibroblasts or collagen grow in the areas where
the acne scars are. After a certain period of time, the skin becomes
noticeably silkier as the scars start to fade.
There
are cases when people do not react to the Isolagen treatment. There has
been important contestation about Isolagen which should not be ignored.
For one thing, it was pulled out of the US shortly before its launch in
the UK, after the FDA said they had concerns over its scientific tests.
In the UK, however, the treatment was approved, as it was not
categorised as medicine and did not need regulation.
After
getting some complaints from dissatisfied customers that the treatment
did not work, Isolagen was also pulled out of the UK.The treatment
will be reviewed again in 2010 to see if any considerable modifications
to the treatment have been observed.
