Exoderm Peel for Acne Scars.

Among the various methods of chemical-peeling,  Exoderm is  the safest, fastest, least painful, better and more lasting treatment.

This treatment  is  a deep peeling treatment that has been shown to exhibit excellent results in the treatment of acne scars; it is modified phenol peel and it has shown reduced side-effects also for Asian people such as arrhythmia, long-lasting erythema, hypopigmentation, hypertrophic scar and keloid.

The technique is simple;   a solution is spreaded on the entire face to  get the complete removal of the superficial epidermal layer stimulating the dermal layer to create a true "Facelifting"  that raises the  deep structures under the skin.

After 8 (eight) days, the patient will look younger, with no wrinkles, spots and other skin defects.

User pre-treatment.

A week before treatment is recommended to reduce smoking to no more than three cigarettes a day and completely avoid the use of alcohol;  the day before the treatment, wash your hair, and   prepare for the days following the treatment liquid or semi-liquid foods such as yogurt, smoothies, soups and  broth.

Post-treatment.

In the first 24 hours after treatment, the patient has a mask  of patches on the face. This serves to accelerate the dissolution of the epidermal layer. After the first 24 hours  the mask  is taken off and  the face is covered with an absorbent and rejuvanating powder.
The patient must  put this powder on your face during the next 6 days to protect the new skin, which is being formed. Eighth day after a pack of white soft paraffin is given to the patient  and it must  be spreaded all over the face to dissolve the mask of  powder.

At the end of the day themask  is completely melted and the face appears in all its beauty: bright, shiny and wrinkle-free. For the subsequent period of 2-3 months  it is recommended that the patient wash your face with a mild soap and then apply a good moisturizer for the day,  a protective anti-sun cream (factor 15) and possibly a foundation. For the first seven nights a cortisone-based cream (Ultralan) and then a moisturizer for the night (Neribas) must be applied.

Postoperative prescriptions.

The patient should spend the first days of convalescence in a cool place, resting with his head positioned above the body (two pillows placed under the mattress lets you raise the back without disturbing the neck) and taking regular analgesics and / or other medication. Pads soaked in water, stored in a freezer and applied  over the treated areas, have a mild anti-edema effect and offer a pleasant sensation of coolness. For at least ten days is necessary to minimize the movements of rotation and extension of the head. Two days after surgery you can take a shower with warm water using mild soap in small doses, which must be rinsed well, especially from the wounds.
The sutures are usually removed after 4 days in the most exposed areas.

In a study,  the effectiveness of Exoderm was evalueted on wrinkles, acne scars, and melasma. Forty-six patients were treated with Exoderm. Twenty-eight patients (61%) were treated for wrinkles and 11 patients (24%) for acne scars. Clinical improvement and side-effects were evaluated and the degree of improvement was graded into four stages. The overall average improvement scores were 3.39 and 3.30 out of 4.00 as evaluated by the doctor and patient, respectively. Forty-one patients (89%) showed 51% or more improvement. All patients with wrinkles improved 51% or more and their average improvement score was 3.64 out of 4.00. Seven of 11 patients (64%) with acne scars improved 51% or more and their average improvement score was 2.73 out of 4.00. The most frequent side-effect was postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (74%). Prolonged erythema, keloid and milia were observed temporarily, however, hypopigmentation persisted for 6 months in the follow-up period. All side-effects were tolerable and reversible except for one complication of hypopigmentation. The conclusion was that Exoderm is very effective for treating the facial wrinkles and acne scars of Asian patients.

The basic formula was developed in 1986 and refined in 1990 by a group of chemists, plastic surgeons and dermatologists with the aim of attenuating the irritability of phenol as well as minimising the systemic and local complication associated with the classical phenol-peel solutions.
