Deep Acne Scars

||||
Visible scars are caused by destruction of the Dermis, the deep layer of the skin. When the Dermis is damaged and tissue is lost, a visible depression or scar appears.
Deep acne scars are better treated by dermabrasion or carbon dioxide (CO2) laser resurfacing.
CO2 laser resurfacing required prolonged recovery, often caused the skin to lose color, and CO2 laser resurfacing only smoothed the surface of the skin and did little to improve severe acne scars caused by destruction of the Dermis by the acne infection process.
Excision of deep scars can be used to greatly enhance the results of facial Laser resurfacing.
Botox in combination with Laser resurfacing in certain areas can be useful. This way, the healing occurs on more relaxed skin and the results are better.
Often a combination treatment is required.

treatments.

Newer lasers and plasma energy devices, such as Fraxel and Portrait Plasma, can achieve some improvement with deep scars.
If you have severe acne scars to determine the best option for you, I would suggest visiting with an experienced surgeon who deals with acne scars on a regular basis.
There are a multitude of possibilities available and the physician should sort out your skin type, level of scarring, type of scarring and your timetable for convalescence during the consultation and then offer the best treatment plan for you.
It is important to make sure the surgeon has all the right certifications and hospital priveleges. When you meet with them, they should fully answer your questions, and be rational and realistic in their promises to you.
Once you find an experienced physician and decide on a treatment option, remember that it’s a long road but one that is usually worth the wait.
