Cystic Acne ScarsCystic acne scars are caused by a severe form of nodular acne. The overproduction of sebum and keratin cause deep infections.
Cystic acne is often treated with a drug called Accutane, an oral medication usually taken once or twice a day for 16 to 20 weeks. It is believed to marginally reduce the size of the oil glands, so that less oil is produced. Cystic acne often left deep, depressed scars with sharp margin resulting from collagen damage. An acne cyst is typically 5 mm or more in diameter. This severe type of acne is deep and can lead to much loss of tissue and scarring. You should treat your cystic acne immediately because it can cause permanent scarring. Generally the hormone androgen is responsible for the production of excess oil. In my personal experience, from age 16 to age 19, I suffered severe cystic acne and I tried everything: anti-biotic, every topical lotion and cream, every diet and skin care regime. Finally, a endocrinologist with special expertise in female hormone problems, is been successful in curing my internal problem with Diane-35, a drug used to treat severe cystic acne. However, cystic acne had left many bad scars on my cheeks. The dermatologist has reduced the appearance of my scar with a 70% glycolic acid treatment. Now, still have a few scars, but nothing like it used to be.
