Causes of Acne

Learn about common causes of acne which in turn cause the scars on your skin.

I always asked myself, why do I have acne and scars and other people not. But I am not alone!
Worldwide there about 60 million people who suffering like I did.

The following are the main causes of acne.

  • Hormones:
  • sebum is normally synthesized by the sebaceous glands in response to circulating hormones, and the glands are especially sensitive to androgens. With the puberty, the human body starts to produce androgens, increasing in both boys and girls. These androgens increase the production of sebum that mixes with common skin bacteria and dead skin cells that have been shed from the lining of the follicle, causing inflammation.
Hormones often causes severe cystic acne and scars in adults.

  • Stress:
  • many acne sufferers, as well as dermatologists and estheticians, have noticed acne flareups when a patient is under stress. Stress causes acne in both males and females of all ages. Stress causes microscopic packets in the ends of the nerve cells causing the production of hormones, such as cortisol, which can aggravate acne. With hormone changes the body prompts the skins oil glands to enlarge, secreting more oil. Which causes white heads, black heads and pimples.

  • Oily or heavy make up:
  • some ingredients can cause an over-production of sebum, which in turn clogs the pores. Heavy make-up clogs the pores and oily make-ups add more oil, which only adds to the problem if oily skin already exists. Cosmetics, especially certain moisturizers, foundations and pomades contain lanolin, petrolatum, vegetable oils, butyl stearate, lauryl alcohol and oleic acid.

  • Some medications and steroids can cause Acne:
  • vitamins are good for your body, but an excess of vitamins B1, B6 and B12 can cause acne flare-ups. These vitamins are good for the skin, but you must avoid overuse.

  • Diets:
  • for some people, a diet that is high in refined carbohydrates and sugars can actually aggravate their acne.

  • Over abrasive cleansing:
  • harsh exfoliators can inflame skin and spread infections.

  • Picking and squeezing:
  • this can actually send the infection deeper into the skin and can cause scarring.

  • Some environmental irritants can cause Acne:
  • for example high humidity and pollution. High humidity actually causes swelling of skin. Pollution can clogge skin's pores. Some chemicals present in environments can cause acne flare-ups; oils, for instance, when brought in contact with skin over a long period can clog up pores, or at least irritate the skin. Pollution can have much the same effect upon the skin; it clog the pores and causes infections.

  • Genes:
  • tendency to develop acne can be inherited from parents. In studies conducted by a number of scientists, links have been found between those presently suffering from acne and the presence of acne in their family history.

Remember: the key to avoid acne scars is to prevent severe Acne.
