This baby condition is normal, and it is caused by hormones passed to the baby, through the placenta, before birth. These hormones stimulate the oil glands on your baby's skin. The baby usually is perfectly happy with no signs of illness.

Do not try to break open or squeeze the pimples, as this can lead to infection and scars.
In the meantime, you can wash your baby's face with warm water two or three times a day and pat it dry. Don't put creams or oils on your baby's skin, because these can make the acne worse. Don't use over-the-counter acne medicines. And don't scrub. This skin condition isn't caused by dirty. Simply wash your baby's face with water. Keep the baby's fingernails trimmed, since a baby can further irritate sensitive skin by scratching.

If acne doesn't clear up within three months, consult your baby's doctor for a medicated cream or other treatment.
