Adult acne affects 25% of all adult men and 50% of adult women.

Acne can occur at almost any age, and some people don't have skin problems until their 20s, 30s, or even later.

Also consider that presence of acne in females may be an important sign of an endocrine hormonal problem.(ovarian or adrenal gland disease, polycystic ovarian disease)

The good news: there are many effective treatments for cystic acne.

The existing adult acne treatments are the following:

1)Accutane: About 80% of patients got the best results with the help of this drug but it can cause very bad side effects.

2) birth control pills:in 1997 the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved low dosage birth control pills for the treatment of acne. The hormone present in the birth control pills prevents acne to form. Most of the birth control pills can be used for the treatment of acne. Personally I have cured my cystic acne with Diane 35.

It takes several months for the birth control pills to show the result but it is very effective.

You can combine oral birth control pill with topical Retin A for best result.
