Ice Pick Scars

Icepick scars are narrow (<2 mm), deep sharply marginated epithelial tracts that extend vertically to the deep dermis or subcutaneous tissue. They are the most common acne scars that occur on the cheeks and have a "punctate" aspect, as you can see in the following pictures.
Ice pick scars are difficult to remove. Common techniques used to smooth the skin, such as a dermabrasion, may actually make these scars more visible. If the scars are highly visible, the surgeon may choose to remove them with a surgical punch.

Boxcar Scars

Boxcar scars Boxcar scars are round to oval depressions with demarcated vertical edges, similar to varicella scars. These scars are wider than ice-pick scars but less deep. They are angular and usually occur on the temple and cheeks.

Rolling Scars

Rolling scars are shallow depressions that are best appreciated with a change in surface lighting. They can vary in size and often coalesce with neighboring rolling scars. They are wider than ice-pick scars. Rolling scars are shallow, wide (> 4 to 5 mm) and have a subdermal fibrous tether that needs to be corrected. These scars can be improved with filler injections or resurfacing procedures. Nonablative laser resurfacing is safer and useful for rolling acne scars .



As you see from pictures, scars from acne can be really disfiguring!
Acne lesions leave scars of many types, each requiring a different treatment approach for improvement. They are debilitating and socially disabling for the individual.
Virtually all scars can be optimally treated with the correct method, obtaining satisfactory results.

I recommend you: not ignore your acne scars! This can exacerbate to more severe forms. In this case finding a good acne scar removal method may be very hard. There are some topical skin care products and medications that can improve mild scarring, but most acne scars are treated with a combination of some type of skin resurfacing and other surgical techniques..
