This procedure gently removes only the top layers of damaged skin; the doctor uses a handheld device that blasts fine particles of sand-like crystals (aluminum oxide or table salt) against the skin.Microdermabrasion is sometimes called Particle Skin Resurfacing. Debris and used crystals are simultaneously vacuumed into a sealed waste container and disposed. These crystals literally "erase" the imperfections and sun damage, without damaging the skin's integrity. The result: a smoother, more youthful appearance.Treatments increase circulation, renew and soften skin, creating a discernibly smoother texture and tone.

Microdermabrasion produces real increases in dermal thickness, collagen-bundle thickness, and epidermal thickness. Histologically, the procedure produces changes similar to those seen after dermabrasion, laser resurfacing, and chemical peels. It works on all skin types and colors  producing subtle changes, causing no skin color change or scarring. However, it is not effective for deeper problems like  deep acne scars.

Microdermabrasion for acne scars takes only 20 to 30 minutes for a full-face treatment.

This procedure is not painful and requires no anesthesia; finally a soothing toner is passed over the face, then a hydrating cream and a sun block.

Acne Microdermabrasion may cause tautness and a slight redness to the skin, which will subside within a few hours. Although uncommon, some patients may experience streaking of the skin from increased blood flow. This will fade over a day or two.

Most patients see improvement after the fourth or fifth session.

The main benefit of microdermabrasion is that it allows you to get back to your daily routine immediately after.
