Scarfade is a topical silicone gel that can be  applied like a cream. It forms a micro-thin layer of silicone on the scar and can be worn under cosmetics. 

This product reduce the appearance of scars and it is a unique formula that is easy to apply, dries quickly and leaves no sticky residue. Additionally,  ScarFade Gel provides a silicone micro-membrane which moisturizes without skin maceration. Simply apply a small amount twice daily and continue until no more improvement is noticed.

Acne scars occur as a result of damage to the skin during healing of acne lesions.  Your skin is made up of three layers. The deepest layer is called the dermis. When the dermis is injured by a deep wound, a scar naturally occurs to bind the edges of a wound together. All deep incisions through the dermis will form a scar.

Keloids and hypertrophic scars develop as a result of uncontrolled proliferation of fibrous tissue after an injury. Clinically, hypertrophic scars are generally white to pink scars that remain within the borders of the original wound. Keloids, however, may extend in a clawlike fashion far beyond the site of original injury.  Hypertrophic scars are elevated, thickened, and are often red, pruritic, or painful.

Treatment for hypertrophic scars includes cortisone injections, pressure dressings and surgical removal. A treatment called Silicone Gel Sheeting was developed within the last decade.

Silicone Gel Sheeting is a thick sheet of silicone with a sticky undersurface. It is applied to the scar with the sticky side down and worn for as long as possible. Silicone therapy is a well established medical practice, yet it is only effective when constant skin contact is achieved.

Instructions: Wash the affected area and pat dry. Gently massage a small amount of the Scar Gel into the scar and gently wipe away the excess with a tissue until the area is completely dry and no longer tacky. Apply twice daily in the morning and evening.. May be covered with cosmetic blush or camouflage.
