CO2 LaserCO2 laser is used to remove areas of damaged skin layer by layer. It can greatly improve the skin appearance.
The CO2 laser is very effective in treating facial scars. A beam of laser energy vaporizes the upper layers of damaged skin at specific levels of penetration. The damaged skin is stripped away and the new cells appear during the healing process. The deeper your acne scars, the more treatments you will need. Shallow scars may be vanished with one treatment. The skin is prepared with a alpha hydroxyl retin-A, glycolic acid, and bleaching agents (hydroquinones). This treatment can be done under general anesthesia or under local anesthesia with sedation. Laser resurfacing usually takes from a few minutes to 1 1/2 hours, depending on how large of an area is involved. Sun exposure needs to be minimized for several months post procedure. The treated area will initially be red. Swelling around the treated area will occur. In 24 to 48 hours, some crusting and mild drainage may occur. Most patients are free of crusts by about 10 days post-operatively but the treated area may remain red for 1 to 3 months following laser resurfacing. An antibiotic ointment will be prescribed, and must be applied several times a day. I recommend you to reduce the risks of complications (burns, scarring) by choosing a qualified plastic surgeon. Resurfacing method is not recommended for people with olive skin, brown skin or black skin . Also, if you have active skin infections you are not a candidate for this procedure. The results of the laser resurfacing can last for 10 years, or even a lifetime. Return from "Co2 Laser" to "Acne Laser Treatments" Return from "Co2 Laser" to "Acne Scar Removal" |
