Botox for acne scars?Botox for acne scars is a new option in the treatment of skin lesions.New research have found that treating a facial scar immediately with botulinum toxin (BOTOX®) improves the appearance of a skin lesion later. These botox injections allow you to avoid later surgeries to improve skin appearance. Botox create a smooth surface in wich the wound can heal, preventing muscle movement for the first two to three months after the wound occurs. Muscle movement may repeatedly distort wounds in the healing phase, producing inflammation and a wider scar. Side effects are minimal with the botulinum toxin injections (occasional small bruise or a headache). The main risk in Botox injection would be transient paralysis but patients also experienced positive side effects, such as a good wrinkle benefit. Although injections with botulinum toxin would be available at local physicians' offices throughout the country, the injections are not yet approved for this use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
