Applying Your at home Chemical Peel: Suggested Step-by-Step Instructions. These instructions are intended for educational and informational purposes only and are not a substitute for the advice of your physician or other medical professional. If you need medical assistance, you should contact your medical care provider.Discontinue use of retinols and retinoic acid at least 24 hours ahead of your peel.

Prior to the day of at home chemical peel application, you will need to do a 'patch' test to gauge your reaction to the peel solution. This is quite easy. Take a Q-tip, dip it into peel solution and lightly dab it on an inconsipicuous area of your lower check, closer to your ear. After a few minutes, rinse the spot with tap water. Access your reaction over the next 24 hours. If there is no significant reaction to the spot (i.e., redness, burning, stinging, blistering, etc.) you may proceed to the peel application.

You should set aside about 15-25 minutes for your at home chemical peel and make sure you have the following items on hand ahead of time:

* Several Q-Tips * Gauze pads, or a paper towel folded into quarters * Rubbing alcohol or witch hazel * Tap water * Vaseline * Watch or Clock for timing * Clips or Hair band to keep your hair off your face * Peel Solution

Clip or tie back your hair so it will not fall on your face if you lean over the sink. You will want to cleanse your skin with a good clarifying cleanser, and ensure all makeup is removed. When skin is dry, swipe over the face with rubbing alcohol or witch hazel until the applicator is clean.

Apply vaseline tipped q-tip to area around eyes, nostrils and the corner of your mouth. This will protect these sensitive area's from the peel solution.

Apply at home chemical peel solution to the gauze or paper towel according to the peel solution instructions; usually this will be 3 or 4 pumps. You can also apply with q-tips.

Swipe the solution on the top and sides of your nose first, then from the bottom side of the nose over the check and to the ear, and the same for the other side. You may want to apply another pump to the applicator, and swipe across your forehead. Repeat for each side of the bottom of your face, middle of chin to bottom of the ear. Finally, swipe the area under the nose above the lips. You may also apply to your neck and upper check area, and back of hands.

There may be some burning or stinging. If this becomes intolerable, or if you skin starts turning red, you will want to rinse thoroughly with cool tap water immediately. Water will neutralize the solution. Generally, you will want to rinse after 10 minutes.

You may use a light moisterizer afterwards. Avoid aha's, bha's, retinols, retinoic acid, or anything irritating for 24 hours after the peel.

Sunburn Alert: This product contains an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that may increase your skin's sunburn. Use a sunscreen and limit sun exposure while using this product.

- 35% Solution: For optimal results, the peel should be applied to instructions every 2 to 4 weeks along with consistent use of effective skin care products.

- 25% Solution: For optimal results, the peel should be applied to instructions every 1 to 3 weeks along with consistent use of effective skin care products.

Preparing Your Skin For A Chemical Peel:Preparing your skin for peels is not a necessity, though it can truly enhance the result. Preparation includes application of skin care ingredients to 'loosen' your outer skin cells and also to help induce new skin cell growth.

Products that contain alpha hydroxy acids, like glycolics and retinoic acid or retinol are excellent to start using a few weeks ahead of time. The alpha hydroxys do a wonderful job in loosening the outer most layers of skin, while the retinoids help stimulate cell growth. If you are not using a good sunscreen, now is the time to start.

If you are not already using these ingredients in your skin care regime, you will want to incorporate these as they are important to maintaining your skin health. Skin care has been likened to exercise and diets. You will need to be consistent to maintain your result.

Just before you apply your chemical peel, you will want to thoroughly cleanse and dry your face. Before you apply the peel product, you may want to swipe your face with alcohol or witch hazel to 'degrease' it. This will help ensure an even penetration of the peel product.
